Rotterdam, the Netherlands, July 1st, 2006 - ViroClinics BV, ViroNovative BV and Viroscope launch ViroVentures, a virtual organization in which the businesses share certain resources, including some members of the management teams, to exploit synergies.
The member companies of ViroVentures were all spun off from Erasmus MC and share a common goal of improving human and animal health, through developing treatments and diagnostics to infectious diseases. Nevertheless, the businesses remain separate legal entities, each with its own focus and strategy.
- ViroClinics BV is a CRO that offers preclinical development and diagnostic services;
- ViroNovative BV is dedicated to developing treatments and diagnostics to human metapneumovirus;
- Viroscope (tradename of CoroNovative BV) identifies new targets for treatment and diagnosis through identifying novel disease-causing viruses;
Commenting on the launch of ViroVentures, Eric Claassen, the statutory director of the three member companies stated ''through ViroVentures, we can leverage common expertise to more rapidly grow each of the businesses, while sharing of assets enables each of them to operate on a more favorable cost basis''. James Simon, a co-founder of ViroVentures, commented that ''the businesses have separate objectives and strategies, yet work with a common set of partners in the health care industry. ViroVentures enables us to interact with these partners more efficiently, resulting in richer interactions with our collaborators and clients, which in turn will lead to increased profitability''.
